About Emory L. Kemp

Emory L. Kemp, founder of the Institute for the History of Technology & Industrial Archaeology at WVU and former chair of the department of civil engineering, studied at the University of Illinois and in London. He is a founding member of the Society for Industrial Archeology and first editor of its journal. He was a fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies, a Regents Fellow at the Smithsonian, a fellow at the University of Edinburgh, and member of the West Virginia Humanities Council board of directors.
