Mark A. Snell, Ph.D, is director of the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War, Department of History, Shepherd University, where he teaches courses on the Civil War, military history and U.S. history. He is a retired army officer and former professor at West Point. He also served as visiting senior lecturer of war studies at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, England.
