William W. French, born in Beckley, graduated from WVU and earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the WVU English department in 1967, teaching Shakespeare and drama courses until his retirement in 1999. He wrote “The Morgantown Play, or Dreams from a Shady Glen,” which was performed at Metropolitan Theatre.
